Thieving Magpie Productions, in cooperation with the Hamner Theater, presents Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, opening June 25, and running Thursdays and weekends through July 12. Love and laughter – deceptions and double-dealings – music and mayhem – in one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies, Beatrice and Benedick match wits, while comic deceptions and dark schemes lead young lovers to make Much Ado About Nothing. Much Ado About Nothing will play Thursdays - Sundays through July 12. Seating for all shows at the Hamner is limited, so please make reservations early. Tickets are $10, $5 for children under 10, at the door or by reservation at 434-361-1999. (Seating at the vineyard shows is first come, first served, no reservations. In the event of rain, the first 60 arrivals at the Theater will be seated.) A free preview show will be performed on Wednesday evening, June 24 at 7:30pm. Opening Night performance Thursday, June 25 will be followed by a champagne reception with members of the cast and crew. In the air-conditioned Hamner Theater, Thursday and Friday shows begin at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. On Saturdays, the show will be performed outdoors at Cardinal Point Vineyard (June 27, July 4) and at Mountain Cove Vineyard (July 11), starting at 7:00 p.m. Picnickers are welcome, with vineyard grounds open at 5:30. (No outside alcoholic beverages allowed.) Bring blankets and lawn chairs. For an additional charge, boxed dinners are available if pre-ordered. Call the Hamner Theater for details. The Virginia Playwrights Initiative (VPI) is a part of the Hamner Theater's continuing mission to foster new works for the stage, specifically those by Virginia playwrights. Following the reading, there will be a discussion open to all. VPI Readings in June & July: Friday, June 5 - Bill Rough will read his play Blackout Friday, June 12 - Actor read of Blackout, by Bill Rough Saturday, June 20 - Staged reading of Nobody's Wife, by Cindy Dlugolecki Sunday, June 21 at 1:00p.m. - Staged reading of The Grove at Illium, by Jane Ann Crum Saturday, July 25 - Staged reading of Slow Instructions, by Roy Robbins Sunday, July 26 at 1:00 p.m. - Staged reading of All is Always Now, by Robert Wray, in which elements of Shakespeare, Melville and Chekhov combine to create a story about a group of theater friends who gather together for one last night in New York. Unless otherwise noted, we will gather for a snack and a chat at 6:30 p.m. and start the reading at 7:00 p.m. Please come listen to the play and be part of the conversation afterwards.
