Greetings from the Hamner Theater,

We are gearing up for a full month of events!

On Saturday, March 1, Charlottesville Playback Theater will bring their improvisational story-telling to the cabaret. Through music, movement and words, the troupe will "playback" the stories you, the audience, tell, with often hilarious, always entertaining results. Participation is, of course, voluntary so come play or watch. As always, doors open at 6:30 for food and the show will start at 7:30. Tickets are $15.00 and include food.

From Playback itself:
"Our troupe recently experienced a meal prepared by Claudia Gibson Catering at the Hamner Theatre, we were all VERY impressed, one of our members said, sincerely "...it was the best meal I ever had..." Click the link to see the menu for January's Cabaret. FYI: It's about a half-hour drive, mostly, west from downtown Charlottesville, VA. Directions are here. For reservations call: 434 361 1999.

On Monday, March 17, St. Patrick's Day we are very lucky indeed to have the talented and renowned Olwell father and son, Patrick and Matthew, with special guests, to help celebrate this day when everyone can be an honorary Irishman! Music and dance, food and drink. We will offer bar-fare for this special event and the tickets are $12.00. Bar opens at 6:30 and the show will start at 7:30. 434-361-1999 for reservations.

Weds., March 19 will be Opening Night of our limited run of Clinton Johnston's Am I Black Enough, Yet? which will play Weds., March 19 through Sat., March 22 at 7:30pm as well as in Charlottesville at Live Arts on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:00 and 10:00pm and Fri., March 21 at 10:30pm (times at LA are subject to change but days are certain.) Don't miss this witty, intelligent and thought-provoking play about the state of blackness in America. Am I Black Enough, Yet? was developed in part at the first annual Earl Hamner Playwrights Conference and is presented in conjunction with Charter Theatre of DC as our first joint production. All tickets are $10.00 and may be reserved by calling 361-1999. The production will be presented at Roanoke's Mill Mountain Theatre from March 13 - 16 and will then go on to DC for a four-week run at Charter Theatre from April 11 - May 3. Check website for further details.

To close out the month, on Saturday, March 29 Paul Curreri returns to the cabaret, with his soulful tunes and bitingly intelligent lyrics back by popular demand. This American musician and songwriter, was born in Seattle, WA, in 1976 and currently resides in Charlottesville, VA. with his wife, Devon Sproule, an accomplished musician herself. He is renowned for his inspired songs, bright voice, and talented fingerstyle playing. As always, doors open at 6:30 for light fare and drinks and the show starts at 7:30. Call 434-361-1999 for reservations.

Ongoing: scene study with Mary Coy, This ongoing class series will offer actors, experienced or not, the chance to work in-depth on scenes - is there a part you always wanted to play? This is your chance - focusing on the process of character development and finding "the truth" of the moment. Sundays at 4pm starting Sun., March 2. Call for information 361-1999.

We rely on the generosity of our community to continue to offer quality theater and musical performance - help us keep live theater alive!
