As 2009 slides into "last year" status, I wanted to say thank you to all who have contributed to the Hamner Theater, whether it was a check or coming to a show or volunteering in some capacity - we couldn't do it without you! And yes, we need your help more than ever now, so please do remember the Hamner Theater in your year-end giving - the Hamner Theater is a project of the Rockfish Valley Community Center, a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization and all donations are fully tax-deductible. We are working toward a match for our $18,750 donation and are hoping to match it by Feb. 1.
Thursday, Dec. 31 at 6pm is our Third Annual Geezer New Year's - all are welcome to our potluck, charades, champagne, dancing and Improv celebration. We set the clocks ahead 3 hours so at midnight it is 9pm and everyone can get home for a good night's sleep, or get to another party or...come celebrate with us and bring a snack to share.
Wasting no time, we will start the New Year with a VPI workshop of Bill Rough's play BLACKOUT. There will be a staged reading, free and open to the public, on Friday evening, Jan. 8 at 7:30pm. Come at 7:00 for a snack and a chat and then stay after to give the playwright the feedback he needs to get his play where he wants it to be. Chris Baumer is directing; Mendy St. Ours, Bree Luck, Ray Nedzel and Marcello Rollando are in the cast. Call 434-361-1999 if you have any questions, or visit the website, www.thehamnertheater.com.
On Saturday, January 16 we will have our first cabaret of the year, Sound Direction, a 6 person a cappella group from the Shenandoah Valley, doing a little bit of everything from spirituals to jazz. As always doors open at 6:30pm for delectable food by Claudia Gibson (menu will be available on the website) and the show will start at 7:30pm. Reservations please! Call 434-361-1999.
Saturday, January 23 - Rural Nelson Dance - 8:00pm - 12:00am - admission by donation, all proceeds go to Rural Nelson.
And as always, every Monday at 6 - Improv! Call the theater for details - 434-361-1999.
The year is off to great start and we hope to see you here often, onstage, backstage or in the audience. Don't forget - if you want to be involved, give us a call. We'd love to have you!
Stay warm, travel safe and of course Happy New Year!
Cheers,
Boomie
